19 Love Songs is a collection of engaging short stories, depicting love in all its various shapes and sizes: crushes, first dates, first kisses, unrequited love, parent-offspring love and romantic relationships. The diverse tales include fiction and non-fiction, poetry and prose and even a comic strip style narrative. The central characters range from child to adolescent to adult.

‘By learning the ways other people have told stories, we learn to tell our own. By telling our own, we become free.’ Gay, straight, transgender - love is love and Levithan depicts it all beautifully: the elation, the pain, the romance, the confusion, the hope, the humour, the everlasting. The writing is enviable and many quotes will stay with you long after the last page is turned. Not only is 19 Love Songs about romantic love, it is also a subtle tribute to a love of literacy, libraries, storytelling, authors, books and words.

19 Love Songs is a novel length book and would appeal to readers aged 15+, especially those who need reminding that while everyone ultimately seeks love and understanding, they shouldn’t change for anybody, and should love who they are first.
